GREENKEY is an Erasmus+ youth partnership project aimed at empowering young people across Europe to adopt sustainable food practices by reconnecting with traditional wisdom, cultural heritage, and ecological awareness. Spanning Czech Republic, Greece, Romania, and Italy, the project blends digital innovation, environmental education, and intercultural learning to foster a deeper understanding of the impact our food choices have on the planet.

GREENKEY – Key to a Green Future – is an Erasmus+ cooperation partnership project that empowers young people and educators to explore the intersection of food, sustainability, climate resilience, and cultural heritage. This 30-month initiative unites partners from the Czech Republic, Greece, Romania, and Italy to promote sustainable food practices rooted in the wisdom of local traditions and biodiversity.

Through a blend of interactive workshops, online learning, and community engagement, GREENKEY helps youth become active stewards of the environment. Participants explore: Climate resilience in the Carpathian and Mediterranean regions Traditional agricultural practices and organic gardening Cultural exchange through seasonal and mindful cooking Zero-waste habits, composting, and eco-conscious food choices GREENKEY fosters practical skills, critical thinking, and eco-citizenship by connecting ancestral knowledge with modern sustainability needs.

Project Objectives

Raise Awareness of Environmental Impact Educate young people (ages 16–25) on how food production and consumption affect climate change, biodiversity, and natural resources, particularly in the Carpathian and Mediterranean regions.
Promote Sustainable Food Practices Encourage seasonal eating, plant-based choices, traditional preservation techniques, and zero-waste cooking to reduce the carbon and ecological footprint of everyday life.
Build Critical Thinking and Green Skills Foster problem-solving, digital creativity, and environmental literacy among youth, using blended learning formats that combine traditional knowledge with modern tools.
Reconnect with Cultural and Culinary Heritage Celebrate and revive ancestral food knowledge through intercultural dialogue and local traditions, promoting pride in regional identity and community practices.
Strengthen the Capacity of Youth Educators Develop a Capacity Building Pack and training sessions to enhance youth workers’ ability to transfer sustainable food practices in engaging, inclusive, and pedagogically sound ways.
Inspire Action at Local and EU Level Empower young people to become active citizens who advocate for climate resilience and sustainable food systems, both in their communities and in broader European discourse.
